Summer Writing for Affinity Magazine

I'm a very outspoken person, especially regarding topics very important to me. Recently, the news has been filled with so much heat surrounding Donald Trump's election, and his political activity as the new President of the United States. Although I am not an American myself, it angered me to see so much bigotry, and hate being spewed so carelessly with no consideration towards minorities. Since I was so angered, and so eager to have my voice heard, I applied for a summer writing job at Affinity Magazine. Affinity Magazine gave me the platform I needed to voice my anger, and spread awareness on global issues on a larger scale. I was given the privilege of writing about any topic I wanted, as long as I delivered quality content every week. Throughout my time writing for Affinity Magazine, I learned the importance of consistency, commitment, and social awareness.

It was quite hard finding topics to write about, since the possibilities were endless. I tried covering news that mattered; problems that needed to be highlighted for the world to know. I felt the constant pressure of delivering quality content at the end of every week. I also had to deal with rejection, since at times my articles would be rejected week after week. The problem with writing for a magazine with such a large teen audience is the criticism that comes with the attention. At times it was hard to read through hateful opinions, but their anger towards my work only made me want to write more.

I definitely gained many skills throughout my time with Affinity. I learned to write quality content under quick deadlines, as well as the importance of paying attention to detail. An audience will always try to dissect your opinion, or the words you've written, so you have to be able to back it up with detailed information, and facts. That is how you deliver quality work efficiently. I've also learned just how an audience works. There are specific topics that are more popular than others that have larger reactions with readers. It was important to them that they stayed updated on what was happening in the real world; especially topics regarding to injustices, and equality.

I'm so glad I have been given the opportunity to write about important global issues, and spread awareness on the problems affecting us daily, and in the future. My love for politics has grown even more, and I've realized just how important it is to stay aware about what is happening in the world. Tolerance is just as bad as bigotry, and just as bad as ignorance. Staying educated is the way to go.
